Poker Pro Matt Matros is One Smart Guy

Matt Matros may be just like the other poker professionals. Like most of them, he also started playing poker as early as high school. However, playing poker was merely a hobby for him. Way back, his interest in playing the game was not very powerful that he did not think of making it as a profession. As a matter of fact, poker did not even hinder the studies of Matt Matros. In high school, he graduated as valedictorian. He eventually obtained a bachelor's degree in Yale University and went on studying to obtain a master's degree in fiction writing from Sarah Lawrence College. Well, with his educational background, it is not surprising if Matt Matros is capable of excelling in just about anything he wants to do.

Although Matt Matros was already knowledgeable of the game of poker during his high school days, he only became a serious player during his senior year in college. Perhaps, Matt Matros is one guy who loves to study, because when he became determined to enhance his poker skills, he started to study everything that he needed to know about it.

Matt Matros did not become a poker professional right away. After finishing college, he still found a job as a software quality engineer. This was when he realized that he did not want to be an employee, until he came to a realization that what he wanted was to become a more serious player of poker.

Matt Matros quit his job after receiving his first prize money from poker in 2001. That was when he finished in the money in a No Limit Hold'em event of the Tournament of Champions, earning US$4,000. This was also the time when this poker professional decided to write a poker book titled "The Making of a Poker Player."

Matt Matros went on to join poker events that allowed him to finance his schooling at Sarah Lawrence College until he obtained his master's degree. Right after his graduation, he became determined to turn into a full-fledged poker professional.

Matt Matros joined several World Poker Tour events starting in 2004. He finished twenty-fifth and earned US$25,500 the first time he joined, and then finished third and earned US$706,903 six days after his first participation. In September 2004, this poker professional joined two World Poker Tour events once again, wherein he placed 24th and 3rd, and won US$1,029 and US$16,500, respectively.

This poker professional, who resides in Bronxville, New York, also played poker games at several World Series of Poker tournaments between 2005 and 2007. His latest participation was in poker events featured at the 38th Annual World Series of Poker tournament. He participated in such games as Pot Limit Omaha, S. H. O. E., and Limit Hold'em Shootout, wherein he had money finishes.

With all the academic and poker achievements of Matt Matros, he is one living proof of how important studying is to all of us.
