David Ulliott: A Successful High-Class Poker Player

We are sure that most, if not all, poker fanatics know who David Ulliott is. Every time he faces opponents at the poker table, he wears a suit or a leather jacket, a pair of sunglasses with an orange tint, and gold rings designed with the words "Devil" and "Fish" because he is known as "Devilfish" in the poker industry.

But prior to being known as the "Devilfish," David Ulliott was first known as "The Clock." This was the time when he had not yet entered major poker tournaments or events. He came to know about poker through his family. He was exposed to the game since he was young but he was already sixteen years old when he became very knowledgeable of it. He would even frequent the Fifty-One Club casino in Hull, England to hone his skills. Until one day, he found himself at a poker room where one of the players was a furniture dealer. He asked the furniture dealer if he could use his grandfather's clock as a buy-in and that was when he was baptized "The Clock."

The nickname "Devilfish" was given to David Ulliott by a Chinese poker player who went to Null and had the chance to play against him. During that time, David Ulliott already turned into a very skillful poker player. This was the reason why the Chinese player compared him to a devilfish, which is a poisonous fish that is capable of attacking a person to death.

Born in Hull, England on January 4, 1954, David Ulliott got his first World Series of Poker bracelet in 1997 when he won first prize in a Pot Limit Hold'em event. The prize money that this professional poker player received was US$180,310. The fact that he was able to defeat fellow English professional poker player Chris Tuby also formed part of such success.

Aside from a World Series of Poker bracelet, David Ulliott has also earned a World Poker Tour title to his name in January 2003. This professional poker player was able to outlast one hundred sixty players from his participation in a No Limit Hold'em event conducted during the Jack Binion World Poker Open of the World Poker Tour. The last professional poker player he defeated in the game was Phil Ivey. Such victory earned him US$589,990.

Despite the success of David Ulliott in different poker games, he is best known to excel in Pot Limit Omaha games. As a matter of fact, he had more than forty money finishes from playing Pot Limit Omaha alone.

Aside from poker, the other interests of David Ulliott include playing the piano and playing the guitar. He is also a jeweler. As a matter of fact, this professional poker player was the one who personally made his "Devilfish" rings that he regularly wears every time he has a poker game to attend to.
